Editor’s picks: January’s best new sofas
This whole ‘new year, new you’ thing – it’s a bit of a tall order, isn’t it?
Best start small, we say. And what better way to introduce the world to the version of you that listens to high-brow music while reading classical literature than by investing in a new sofa to do it on?
The truth is, we’ve developed a bit of a thing for sofas over the years. These days, the Swoon Studio is creating and launching new ranges every month, from buttoned-back classics to innovative hypermodern designs. And they’re all available in an assortment of colours and fabrics – some with over 50 different options – so you can personalise your new prized possession.
So every month, we’re going to deliver a round-up of the very best. Let’s kick off 2019 with an impossibly stylish bang, shall we?
Just look at this masterpiece. It took 14 months to get everything about this design right, from the spring in the cushions to the wadding in the arms. It’s available as left and right-hand corner sofas, as well as standard two and three-seaters. Comfort is key, but so is convenience – so get this: the Nygard is delivered in two parts and then attached once it’s in your home, which means no stressing about door width. Could it get any dreamier?
This laidback wonder is country comfort made manifest. Its removable covers make it low maintenance, too – so you can focus immediately on relaxing without a thought for disastrous spillages. It comes in corner versions too, and in a range of fabrics, including soft wool and velvet – but our favourite has to be the brushed linen-cotton on the Perth. It gives it a glorious farmhouse feel, however urban your dwelling.
Inspired by Havana and based on vintage car seat design, the Perrian is retro minimalism at its best. The sharply angled arms and tapered legs give it a Scandi feel and confident simplicity. Perfect for a more compact space, it comes as two and three-seater sofas, as well as an eye-catching armchair. And as well as a range of sumptuously soft fabrics, you can choose between dark and light beech feet, too. We rather like it in a deep elderberry soft wool for understated sophistication.
Endlessly inviting, the Luna is all about cool comfort. With padded arms that are perfect for laying your weary head on while stretching out indulgently across its plump cushions, it’s substantial without being blocky or inelegant. For smaller spaces, there’s an equally curvaceous two-seater option, as well as a dangerously snug loveseat.
Talk about tradition: the Sidbury is a real living room centrepiece, with its buttoned back, scroll arms and beautifully turned feet complete with brass caps. This classic comes in two shades of leather – grey and tan – but we particularly love it clad in fern-green velvet with dark beech feet. Utterly irresistible.
