How to host the summer of sport in your home

From the World Cup and Wimbledon to Royal Ascot and The Henley Royal Regatta – it’s time for an awesome summer, packed to the rafters with back-to-back sporting events. With so much to choose from, this summer of sport is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself and your friends in some big-screen action from the comfort of your own home.

Whether laying on a fantastic feast for football fans or unwinding with post-match drinks – get some inspiration to host a get-together your guests won’t forget in a hurry.

Warm up
We love to begin festivities by propping our pals up at the kitchen bar with stylish seating like the Arlena bar stool. Its glam brass-coated frame adds a touch of Art Deco glamour to your aperitifs to set any game off to a good start. If drinks and snacks are as far as you’re going, the Audrey bar stool offers a Scandi style seat that’s comfortable enough for guests to stay put as they ferociously keep tabs on the score.

First half
Get the crowd fuelled for the game ahead with a fantastic feast and make your dining table the star player. It’s time to show off your finest culinary feats on a striking table-top.  The Dulwich dining table features a steel-clad surface that’ll bring an industrial feel to the party, while the Ellis dining table’s inlaid parquet top makes an eye-catching contemporary backdrop with a traditional twist. Either way, your starters will go down a storm.

It’s rude to leave the dinner table before you’ve finished, right? Well, we like to break the rules so forget that. Here at Swoon, we think the key to hosting a successful event is keeping an eye on timing. If you get it right, you can give your guests a pause between courses so they can huddle around the TV to see how that tie-break is progressing.  The Ziggy media unit is perfect for propping up the box – not only can you enjoy it well beyond summer entertaining, but it can provide a much-needed distraction from any defeats.
When it comes to seating, a sturdy armchair like the Winston is just the ticket. A classic Chesterfield design that’s long been a traditional furniture staple – it can even handle being jumped all over if things get really exciting. Not too much though, you don’t want to ruin it.

Second half
Back to the dinner table and time to dig into the main course.  And you can’t ‘dig in’ without some damn good tableware, can you? Keep the energy buzzing with the best-selling Laura range – this stoneware crockery is expertly crafted to give your table a burst of colour with a rustic edge. The softly speckled ‘halo effect’ around the rim of each piece evokes a nautical vibe – rather well placed if you’re watching the Regatta wouldn’t you say?
For the actual ‘digging’ we recommend cutlery over hands. Sometimes. Most cutlery goes unnoticed, but not the Everett in black titanium. Another tabletop essential that’ll keep spirits high and guarantee table manners don’t descend into chaos.

Extra time
Who’s ready to retire to the lounge? Grab the dessert and plenty of drinks to indulge in extra time or a post-match debrief. Something like the Holloway three-seater sofa is ideal for huddling up on. Its firmly supportive sprung seat and broadly sweeping back make it an absolute comfort hit that guarantees bums on seats. Take a glass of Prosecco, a bowl of strawberries and a Max footstool and you’ve got the recipe for success whether your player wins or loses.
Make sure more drinks are never out of reach with the Quilles side table. A handsome place to prop your glass of plonk, it doubles as a sophisticated wine rack and is finished with a luxurious marble table top – right on trend. Meanwhile, if you’ve got multiple dessert options, there’s room for all of them on the  Fez coffee table. A contemporary take on the marble trend, it’s a table like no other, with an eye-catching pentagonal shape that looks great covered in sweet things. Well, what doesn’t?

Whichever room you designate for your summer sports celebrations, make sure it’s set up for a triumph. Read more from us here.
