“I’m a spray man,” Dilip says, seriously. We tell him that with the gun and the name, it makes him sound like a super hero. He almost smiles. “This isn’t a toy. When I have the spray gun in my hand, I have to focus.”
He sprays the frame of a Z-shaped Sullivan side table, meticulous in his coverage of the steel in our vibrant Sky Blue shade. “I spray sealer, lacquer and paint. I love to spray coloured lacquer the most,” he says, standing back to admire his work. “It’s so lustrous”.
A stern young man, we ask him what his hobbies are and his lip lifts ever so slightly. “Believe it or not,” he says, “I love to play volleyball. There’s a court near my house where my friends and I meet for a game.” He shrugs, and smiles. “I’m not very good, but I like to try.”
