Jessica Russell Flint – designer.

“There’s no such thing as a typical day’s work for me. One day I might be at a show, the next in my studio, I may spend a morning drawing and an afternoon doing admin or speaking to production houses from all over the world. If I could I’d be creating new prints from dawn til dusk, day in day out, walking my dog Betty over Hampstead Heath in-between!”

“My Bees and Leaves print is inspired by foliage appearing on the trees in spring and insects slowly emerging from hibernation. Chinese Blue is one of my favourite palettes – I love its freshness – and I think the pattern and colour together creates something quite unique. If you look closely, you can see its intricacies from the veins of the leaf to the little hairy arms and body of the bee.”

“Each one of my designs begins as hand-illustrated artwork – I think it makes designs more special, knowing they originate from an original piece of art. Ink is my favourite material to work with for sure. I love the fluid texture and using a quill. It’s quite old fashioned but it means the lines are really fine and scratchy. I’ve been known to use anything from sand to tobacco to create texture though; it’s about being experimental.”

Jessica is an interior designer and illustrator. She’s the face behind the latest Designer Edition of our Gustavian-style Juliette bench.
