Salim is a labourer in the wood seasoning plant where mango wood is treated in order to control its moisture levels. “We’re all like friends here,” Salim says. “I look forward to coming to work, because I enjoy the company of the people I work with.”

We asked how he likes to spend his days off. “Eating and sleeping,” he says matter-of-factly. “Followed by napping and snacking,” he chuckles. “Rice is my favourite. I’m an expert at eating it. I can make a bowl of rice disappear in an impressive amount of time.”
